It is also recommended that you find your own proxy and common proxy port numbers such as 3128 or 8000. It is also true that there are not enough public proxy servers so they can not be always truly useful, but we have to say that there are many private proxy serves used as gateways/concentrators for outside traffic.

I use uTorrent and want to protect myself from being tracked or identified when downloading. I googled something like “torrent proxy” and found a site with a list of proxy IPs along with their respective ports and proxy types. I found a SOCKS5 proxy and typed in the IP and port into my connection preferences. Is this enough to hide myself, or is there something else I have to do?

That depends on two things- The security settings of the proxy itself, as well as how diligent someone is on tracking you. Typically you want Anonymous Proxies if you have a choice, and your best bet would be ones from larger institutions- colleges, science research centers, government proxies, large companies, etc. Ones run by private individuals often have security issues. Question by Charlize: ANY HIDE IP software WHICH WORKS, other than useless Hide IP Platinum, Hide My IP, & “free anonymizer” sites?
I need to be able to do anything I do with my normal connection: ENTER ANY FORUMS AND POST COMMENTS; FILL OUT AND SEND FORMS, ETC.

I’ve tried those USELESS Free Anonymizer Sites everybody seems to suggest, where you can enter websites, but you can post nothing.

For the normal PC user all the so called (anonymizer) products out there just makes you ip harder to see. It depends on how bad the people want your ip, even just browsing the web there is software available for free that will let the webmaster see both your proxy servers ip and your as well. As far as interacting with other computers online you need a direct computer to computer (DCC) connection to post, fill out forms, download,etc

Question by Daniel: Does anyone know a “working” Proxy site?
Some of the website blocks at my school are ridiculous, so in order to get to some of those “good” websites (even wiki is blocked), does anyone know a few working, unblocked proxy sites? (Proxies are pretty much the only thing i can think of that could help in this situation).

Proxy sites get banned pretty quickly, so instead of people saying a site right here, and increasing the likely hood of that happening, could someone please send me the link to a little known site, via email?

A side note, the word “proxy” is banned from searching, and use in the adress bar (such as googling “proxy list” (or any mis spelling of the word) or “bestproxyeva.com”, for example.
